If there ever was any plausible deniability Penn State proponents and Joe Paterno lovers could hide behind regarding the Jerry Sandusky child sexual molestation case, today’s disclosure eliminates just about any argument they have (or can credibly bring to bare) with the opening up of witness testimony today. Today’s news that many instances of Jerry Sandusky sexual molestation of underage boys had been reported to Joe Paterno should end any debate about his legacy and more importantly serve as an example of precisely what not to do in the future.

Yes Paterno is one of the greatest college football coaches of all-time. He was a likable, blue color personality in the heart of blue color land in central Pennsylanvia. A hero to millions and several generation of Penn State fans. The notion that he has any culpapbility in this sexual molestation is impossible for these people to handle. However today’s news indicts Paterno, his inability to act for decades on this news and condemn a heinous series of acts in itself is a crime, and while he accomplished a lot of good, that all is wasted by his actions.

The hope is his inability to act, possibly from a sincere belief that nobody could commit such acts, is eliminated in the future to encourage future generations confronted with the same situation to act, to stand up to injustice, to crimes, to ensure everybody is included and has a fair shot at their one shot at life. For the dozens of Sandusky victims they didn’t get that shot, which is unfair, at least we can all learn from this incident to avoid such heinous crimes in the future.
